Our Commitment
Here at Lucky Cow Paper Goods we are trying to do our bit for the environment, and it starts with our products – sustainable paper bags and accessories. By not using any animal products not only are our paper bags cruelty-free and vegan friendly, they also don’t contribute to the destruction of the planet.
The cattle industry is the number one cause of deforestation in virtually every Amazon country. This deforestation is responsible for the release of 340 million tons of carbon to the atmosphere every year.
Planting Trees
We wanted to go one step further though, so for every product purchased we will be planting a tree. In fact, the bigger the product, the more trees we’ll plant!
We are proud to have partnered with Tree Nation, an organisation dedicated to fighting climate change and deforestation. Tree-Nation facilitates and supports tree planting projects all around the world. Their main focus is on the tropic regions, where trees grow much faster, thus capturing CO2 much faster.
Another reason for Tree-Nation's choice of the tropic regions is that these areas are suffering from heavy deforestation and up to 85% of terrestrial biodiversity is threatened, with many species on the brink of extinction.
Mangroves in Madagascar
The first project that we will be supporting is the Eden Project in Madagascar.
Deforestation has long been an issue for Madagascar and it is one of the world's top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its concentration of endemic species and extreme rates of habitat loss.
In coastal areas, mangrove deforestation results in the destabilisation of the coastline and increases the vulnerability of coastal communities to storms and other weather events. These events are becoming more frequent and intense as a result of human-induced climate change.
Planting Mangrove trees provides habitats for endangered animal species, absorbs carbon, halts erosion & flooding and brings back healthy fisheries and farming.
Plastic Promise
We set out to cut out as much plastic as possible from our product and packaging, whilst also seeking renewable & bio-degradable materials where we can.
Our packaging is made from recycled material and is 100% recyclable.
Steps have been taken at all stages of our design and manufacturing processes to minimise our impact on the environment and although not quite there yet, we’re well on our way to being an entirely plastic free business. (Which is a lot harder than you might think!)
